Adasa will deploy 11 weather radars for AEMET
Adasa will deploy 11 new weather radars and develop the software for the Operations and Monitoring Center of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
This intervention is carried out in collaboration with the company Vaisala, awarded the project for the expansion, renovation and modernization of AEMET's radar network, as part of the Spanish Government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The new radars represent a significant technological leap compared to the equipment currently used by AEMET. They incorporate much more powerful digital signal processors, dual polarization technology, and advanced algorithms capable of mitigating or eliminating interference caused by wind turbines, spurious emitters such as WiFi signals and other noise sources.
These C-band weather radars, already the standard in Europe, offer improved accuracy in detecting weather phenomena, such as rain, snow or hail, and improved estimation of precipitation amounts. This optimized detection capability will provide agencies such as Civil Protection with more accurate real-time information, facilitating decision making to mitigate damage during severe weather events.
Software development
The software platform to be designed by Adasa will provide AEMET with a comprehensive and detailed view of the status of the weather radars and their devices, ensuring the quality of the images generated. This will allow early detection of failures, deviations, software errors and radio frequency interferences that may affect the quality of the images.
In addition, the tool will manage the radar components through a comprehensive traceability system and will be in charge of document management, generating preventive and corrective maintenance reports.
The development of this platform is based on open source technologies, integrating an IoT telemetry platform, messaging brokers and databases specialized in time series data management.
Wide deployment of weather radars
Adasa has extensive knowledge in the development of weather observation systems, with more than 20 years of international experience in the deployment of weather stations and radars in multiple countries.
In Spain, Adasa has been a reliable supplier for AEMET, collaborating in the maintenance of its radar network and the installation of more than 150 weather stations throughout the country.
