Adasa drives the recovery of the Mar Menor with an innovative environmental monitoring network

Adasa has led the implementation of a pioneering environmental monitoring network in the Mar Menor, as part of the BELICH project promoted by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). This initiative strengthens Adasa’s commitment to the protection of vulnerable ecosystems and technological innovation applied to the environment.

With an investment of €1.22 million, Adasa has designed, installed, and commissioned a real-time monitoring system that measures key meteorological and oceanographic parameters.

The network includes state-of-the-art buoys equipped with advanced sensors, underwater platforms, and meteorological stations strategically located in six critical areas of the lagoon: the northern and southern basins, the central platform, the Estación and Marchamalo channels, the General Air Academy, and the headquarters of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) in San Pedro del Pinatar.

This infrastructure enables the collection of precise, reliable, and high temporal resolution data, which are essential for anticipating critical phenomena, assessing the ecosystemic status of the lagoon, and making decisions based on the best available scientific evidence.

Distinctive technology and specialised expertise

Adasa’s contribution to the coordination and execution of the project, together with collaboration from certain specialised external companies and strategic material suppliers, goes beyond the provision of technology: it brings expertise in marine environments, with solutions adapted to the specific characteristics of coastal areas.

This monitoring network is currently one of the most advanced in the western Mediterranean, marking a turning point in the continuous monitoring of marine ecosystems.

Committed to sustainability

With this initiative, Adasa reaffirms its role as a leading company in technological solutions for water and environmental management, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the climate agenda, as well as its experience and knowledge in highly complex environmental projects.

We will continue to work to offer innovative and reliable solutions that help preserve our seas, lagoons, and coastal ecosystems, ensuring their conservation for present and future generations.
