Monitoring Water Quality at a Recirculating Aquaculture Facility

Boosting the RAS productivity and increase efficiencies.

Challenge

A large global aquaculture and food processing enterprise built a new recirculating facility. Soon after starting up, they noticed that the water quality was not always in prime condition for optimum fish production, with episodes of high ammonia and CO2 levels, or low O2 — all common issues in feed-based aquaculture.

ADASA’s Solution

Our client chose to invest in the Aquaculture Water Monitoring Unit (AWMU) from Adasa to minimise the risk in managing a RAS facility, get a better fish growth and reduce the use of chemical treatments.

AWMU provides a complete and efficient solution to the global seafood industry's most pressing problem; The AWMU is an automated, computer-controlled, reliable and accurate monitoring system. Accessible online, it continuously tracks and controls critical water qualities in a reticulated facility.

Result

The operational use of the Aquaculture Water Monitoring Unit resulted in:

  • Increased production.
  • Fewer fish disease problems in tanks holding live seafood.
  • Optimised feeding.
  • Better fish growth.
  • Less use of chemical treatments.

The numbers of fish saved covered the cost of the unit in a short period of time.
